Colorado Cattle Co-op

A Colorado-based cooperative cattle operation structured around fractional cow ownership, calf futures instruments, and burdened unit economics — delivering real beef to FFVCoin members while building a self-funding, perpetually cycling herd asset on the blockchain.

The Problem

The Packer Spread

The commodity cattle market pays $1.90 per pound on the hoof for an animal that retails at $15–20 per pound in steaks. That $13–18 spread is not value creation. It is extraction — concentrated in a handful of national packers and grocery chains.

Pilot I does not ask ranchers to reinvent their operations. It inserts FFVCoin-owned cattle into existing, professionally managed herds — adding fractional ownership, ledger verification, and member beef delivery on top of ranching infrastructure that already works.

CEU Structure

Cow Equivalent Units — Fractional Ownership

A CEU (Cow Equivalent Unit) is a fractional ownership token representing a verified share of one cow in the Pilot I herd. The cow is the underlying asset. Real, tagged, tracked, and ledger-verified.

UnitFractionApprox. Buy-InNotes
CEU-161/16 cow~$100–125Entry-level membership
CEU-101/10 cow~$160–200Standard unit
CEU-41/4 cow~$400–500Committed member
CEU-1Full cow~$1,600–2,000Full unit

CEU units are burdened. Every unit carries its pro-rata share of herd operating costs. Members know exactly what they own and exactly what it costs. The ledger shows everything. CEU units are fractional ownership of a living, producing asset — not a fixed return instrument.

The Derivative

Calf Futures — The Instrument

When a cow’s pregnancy is confirmed by veterinary preg-check, the ledger automatically mints a Calf Futures instrument against that cow’s CEU holders.

A) Beef Redemption

Receive proportional packaged beef at harvest. Real food delivered to FFVCoin members at cooperative pricing — not packer pricing.

B) Cash Settlement

Receive market cash equivalent at harvest date. Full liquidity option for members who prefer cash over physical delivery.

C) Roll Forward

Reinvest into next breeding cycle. CEU units are self-replicating — the cow remains a perpetual productive asset through multiple cycles.

The calf is the derivative. The cow is the underlying. Gestation (~9 months) is the natural expiry window. The ledger tracks every step — conception, birth, growth, harvest, delivery.

Strong cycle~$175~$280 beef/cashHealthy herd, strong calf crop, good market

Difficult cycle~$175~$80–120 beef/cashDrought, screwworm event, predator loss
Severe event~$175~$0–50Rare catastrophic pool loss

The pooled herd structure is the risk management tool. One animal lost is not one member wiped out — it is a fractional reduction across the pool.

FFVCoin Members Only

CEU units are available exclusively to FFVCoin cooperative members. Standard cattle operations offer no fractionalization, no ledger verification, no shared risk pooling, and no membership community. FFVCoin offers all four.

The Value Proposition

The commodity packer pays $1.90/lb live. The retailer sells ribeye at $35–55/lb. FFVCoin members own fractions of the cow that produces that ribeye. The calf is their futures instrument. The burden is transparent. The risk is pooled. The beef is real. The ledger is tamper-proof.

The 2.4-Year Cycle

Month 0: acquire CEU → Month 3: pregnancy confirmed, Calf Futures issued → Month 9: calf born → Month 14: first harvest, Settlement #1 → Month 15: cow rebred → Month 24: second harvest, Settlement #2 → Month 28: elect continue/exit/roll. The cow is a perpetual asset.
